1.Why did Ms Gruwell have the Freedom Writers study the Holocaust and meet Holocaust survivors?

The Freedom Writers studied the Holocaust, because gang life has a lot of similarities with life during the Holocaust. There are murders, there is discrimination. Ms Gruwell thinks that if her students meet Holocaust survivors, the Freedom Writers will reflect on their human condition and they will unlock to the world. Their war of Race is dangerous and useless because it leads to death. She wants to show them that discrimination only leads to atrocities like the Holocaust.

2. How did the Freedom relate to Anne Frank? Give examples.

The Freedom Writers identify to Anne Frank. They have experience of just the same things. The students find a relation betwen Anne Frank and their life. Anne Frank was fifteen when she died and the Freedom Writers are about fifteen. Gang life is so hard, the Freedom writers aren't untroubled like Anne Frank when she lives during the war.

3. In what way Zlata Filipovic impacted the students’ lives? Give example from several writers. What really surprised the Freedom writers?

Zlata was the same age as the Freedom Writers and she lived the same horrors. I think that the Freedom Writers like Zlata because she impresses them, because she is so strong, nice and smiling even though she experienced the atrocities of ware.

4.In diary 47, the writer says: ”Now if you ask me what race I am, like Zlata, I’ll simply say, “I’m a human being.””How could you explain that quote? Do you relate to it?

They begin to understand that life is not so hard. The Freedom writers realise that people are equal, that is to stay that races don't exist and that discrimination is useless and terrible.
